Anyone else loving Jane Eyre?  I chose it over Cracker the other night, so it must be doing something right. (I have taped Cracker tho, of course...  ) ***********************************

And yes, I know it's Sunday on BBC3, but I'll have to wait for good old BBC2 to air it on Wednesday. My sister is kicking herself for switching cable providers because she's lost BBC3 and 4. ah well, at least it's only a few days extra to wait. Read my fic at

Y'know, I remember Captain Jack from when he used to do that giant-board-game kid's show on TV yeeeeeeears ago. It's nice to see him back on screen so much, with the Maria thing and so on as well. ***********************************

So - Torchwood - opinions? It's definitely not for kids, is it?
I was just pleased to see Mr Guppy back - the pheremone spray was hysterical! Jane Eyre, well, not fussed to be honest; I don't think theyestablished Jane's moral framework well enough and yet again they employ a pretty actress who wwe all have to believe is plain and mousy. And I don't like Toby Stephens. Apart from that  But - they did film it at Haddon, my favourite big house (only about 40 minutes drive from us), so that was good. |

Downloaded the first couple of episodes of Torchwood, watched the first so far and bits of the second
 LUUUUUVVVVVV Cap'n Jack, always have. Gwen's a bit whiny and annoying, but females like that on shows like this usually are. Like what I've seen so far. They're really playing around with the sexuality issues, aren't they. |

So how long d'ya reckon it'll be before Gwen's boyfriend leaves? I give him 2 more eps maximum. It's nice that Jack has the Doctor's other hand (I'm so glad it wasn't chewed up by dogs or something ) - so was Jack under the ship during the Christmas invasion then, did he maybe try to find the TARDIS and get severly disappointed once more? (awww!)Or did he find the hand later? I want to know how he got it! ***********************************

I think it probably scampered around like "Thing" until it found a friendly face.
Gwen's bf is probably toast - unless they save him for a touching reunion at the very end of the very last episode. And Ianto - "He was in the 'phone book"! |

"Jackanory" is back with the likes of Sir Ben Kingsley and John Sessions and is being directed by Nick Willing who directed GV in "Dr Sleep".

Life on Mars - anyone here watched it? I only started watching with the second series, but I'm going to go back and watch from the beginning now. (I happened to watch an episode of 'Sharpe' over the weekend, which also had Philip(?) Glenister in it. That series seems to have *everyone* in it...sometimes twice... ) ***********************************

I was going off Doctor Who a bit recently, but the last two episodes have sucked me back in. And the next one looks freaky-scary, so yay! I'm not so keen on Martha yet.....it may partly be a knock-on effect of her mother being quite frosty, I always loved Rose's mum, but Mrs Jones....yikes..... ***********************************

I'm quite enjoying it actually. (even if I spend most of my time trying to figure out where I've seen some of the actors before...imdb.com is my friend!) I'm also quite loving S2 of Torchwood. 1 ep aired so far and already it's much better than last season.

I liked Cranford (how brilliant was Judi Dench?) but Lark Rise has left me cold; too cosily bucolic.
But both Julia Sawalha and Linda Bassett have been in other Bonnet Dramas recently - Cranford and Sense & Sensibility respectively. I loved Linda Bassett in East is East - it's odd to see her play conventionally mumsy types after that. I'm liking Torchwood better this season - and I loved the Star Wars joke in episode 1! Gwen though - dull, dull, dull.

I don't like Gwen either, she's the least interesting character in the whole show, yet no-one involved in the show seems to realise this....
Did I spy Alan Dale in the previews for later in the series? I'm looking forward to Ashes To Ashes, although I have some doubts as to whether it will work as well as Life on Mars did.

A little trivia for our British friends ("EastEnders" is the only one of these shows I've ever seen re-played in the US).
Slippery soap: Study finds TV marriages don't stick If you're looking for guidance on how to build a successful marriage, one source you don't want to use is the soap opera. British wedding insurer Ecclesiastical Insurance looked at marriage on the UK's top three soaps - "Coronation Street," "EastEnders" and "Emmerdale" - and what it found wasn't pretty. Between 2003 and March 2008 there were 48 marriage ceremonies on the three soaps, and only 11 of those remain intact today. In fact, just as many were called off by either the bride or groom during the actual ceremony itself. All in all the company found that the three soaps have a divorce rate about four times the national average and that characters on the shows have a 20 percent chance of being left at the altar or having their spouse die. Comparing the trends by individual soap, weddings on "EastEnders" are most likely to end before the words "I do" are spoken, with 39 percent called off at the altar compared to 7 percent on "Emmerdale" and 19 percent on "Coronation Street." (But the odds on ER aren't much better, are they?) |
