Sure, it was slow at times and corny and after 15 years there's really no such thing as an original story idea anymore, but to me this was more of a classic episode than "Times of Old." (Maybe because I missed a lot of S2 thru S5--nightschool classes and infant children interfered--and know the original cast mostly from reruns and syndication.) Sympathetic doctors, whoever they may be, caring for sympathetic patients, played by talented character actors, has always been the core appeal of the show for me. Also, a childhood friend of mine died in her early thirties after an unsuccessful heart transplant and a lifetime of battling heart disease so maybe I had a stronger personal reason to respond to this episode, but inviting that kind of personal identification is also part of the show's past success.

A few particulars: The final Megan/Banfield scene actually made me cry! Mostly because the actress playing Megan was excellent as the sort of character Sam was originally supposed to be I guess. And Cuddy is a much better role model for Banfield than either Luka or Weaver.

Even though Sam is now the obnoxious nurse who knows more than all the doctors, was anyone surprised that the two high school freshman were smarter than Sam and Gates combined?

For the first time, the Roomies really made me want to barf. It's too late for me to care about Simon as a character, and DL's pale blond looks are not my usual heartthrob profile, but he's a good actor and I would watch him in the future.

Morris and Claudia are so sweet together that if the show were going on any longer, I would be very, very scared for them.
