Hmm, barges into the staff lounge, makes herself at home, hits on the first pair of pants she sees.... yeah, hating Sam's sister already

I am officially calling for an ER - The Oliver Kosten Years spinoff. His couple minutes total was more interesting than the season so far combined.
Sooooo, Sam's sister is now rolling in money and can pay all of mom's assisted living expenses so that's not even an issue. She just wants to move mom all the way from Dallas to Chicago so a daughter she rejected totally 15 years ago can visit her a couple times a week even though said daughter doesn't want to and doesn't know what kind of reception she'd get. Did she even ask mom if she wants that? How would that even begin to be a suitable alternative to weekly visits from the daughter she's bonded with for years? Not to mention the whole different climate and uprooting from familiar surroundings? Sorry, this is one time Sam is not being an unreasonable byotch. |

The lack of replies to this thread doesn't make me feel guilty that I won't see it until tonight.
In other news, I now feel for all you poor people in Europe who have had to do this for the other 14.5 seasons and send my condolences from the Land of the Luka. |

Whereabouts are you? Split was lousy with internet cafes and connections - even the local laundrette had two!

Zagreb, but I have no internet at my apartment, so I am downloading from the local student center, which serves amazing Turkish mud with a side of free Wi-Fi.

I loved the period costumes, too. And the old equipment, like a fifties sci-fi movie.
Looks to me like tptb are setting Morris up for a happy ending with his lady cop. I agree Sam's sister's plan for Mom is idiotic, but Sam pissed me off big time with her crack about "shoving this in my face." So your sister has a good career, it wouldn't kill you to congratulate her. What exactly crawled up Dubenko's ass? I don't care much for Brenner myself, but he was actually being pretty standard "ER doctor who cares" when he argued with Lucien. Are tptb trying to suggest Lucien got pissy with Brenner because he is jealous about Neela? I can't say I was especially moved by any part of it. |

Whoa. Paging Dr. Hot Accent, anyone? I haven't drooled so much over a doctor since a certain moonlighting Croat walked through the doors (it's the
shock appeal, don't worry, Luka's still my personal physician of choice). But man…that visiting doc from San Diego can remove my appendix through my
mouth any day of the week. Well, actually, that's a lie. I lack one. But he can sure as hell try.
Also, and this is going to mark me as an enormous geek, the picture Sam's sister had was not from Six Flags, it was from Splash Mountain at either Disneyland or Disney World. Anyone else notice that Parminder's already showing? Still, it would be incredibly easy to hide, and I'm not big on the idea of a Breelet/Neennerlet. Both Gates and Morris look significantly better in the sixties. I dig it. |

I'm not sure if this is good or not, but I don't think I have anything notable to say about the whole episode. I did like it, but I guess it was
average. Nothing was amazing or really bad...I did like the scenes with young Oliver, very cocky and I guess attractive, William H. Macy has wonderful green
eyes, I like Neela when she's with Brenner a lot (and they're hiding Parminder's pregnancy very well) and the Sam stuff didn't bother me at
all.One minor complaint: Frank came on board in "Match Made in Heaven", which was season 6. So how did he know who Morgenstern was, when he said that
he used to rule the hospital back in the day? I mean..ok, maybe he might've heard about him, but the whole scene made it seem like they worked
together...at least to me.
Could anyone explain the "bubble man" scenario? I didn't quite get why he was in that..thing 18 hours a day (health problem, yes, but what?)... |

'Bubble Man' was actually a life time polio victim. The equipment he was inside was an iron lung. I grew up in the 50's and remember seeing
pictures of row upon row of polio patients in them. It basically provides a non invasive way for a paralyzed patient to breathe by increasing and decreasing
air pressure on the chest area. He said he spent 18 hours a day in his. Can't figure out why he would need to bring the whole durn thing into the
ER....except to give us a really good visual of that was then/this is now.
Am I off on picking up Dubenko's coldness?? I always thought of him as being a caring, compassionate individual when it came to patient. If he was being so negative because of the Neeler situation - it didn't come off like that to me. Hmmmm. And I wouldn't mind a Kostin spin off myself....except for the costumes. I cannot imagine a nurse having to work in white skirts and stockings. Haven't seen that on tv since.....'Julia'....and I wouldn't want to have to watch that again.

Can't figure out why he would need to bring the whole durn thing into the ER....except to give us a really good visual of that was then/this is now. Because he can't breathe without one, and probably can't stay on an alternate kind of respirator for long, certainly not long enough to risk an ER wait. Google Iron Lung, it has a fascinating history. Sam pissed me off big time with her crack about "shoving this in my face." So your sister has a good career, it wouldn't kill you to congratulate her. I tuned out anything about little sister's faaaabulous career after the parts about million dollar collection and trips to Europe. So contrived and over the top. |

Just a thought, but as Frank was once an "ER" patient and later a desk clerk, he may have met Morgenstern while he was IP.

Aimee wrote:It's just one more continuity issue. Morgenstern left after a major meltdown, so I doubt he would have been dropping in just to keep in touch with the staff. On the other hand, he could have been so legendary that everybody felt they knew him. The guy playing the young Dr. Kosten was really cute. I could have used a few more flashbacks. I started to comment on Sam and her sister, but I wasn't paying enough attention to remember if Sam relented in the end. They did a good job picking the actress; they didn't really look alike, but they looked like they could be related. ETA: Sorry for commenting on the obvious, but Sam is still kicking guys to the curb and then bitching when they sleep with another woman. The scene would have been a lot more fun if Sam had playfully congratulated Gates on his conquest. What I hate most about the Sam character is that she makes me feel sorry for, ugh, Gates. Who thinks Dubenko is headed for his own meltdown?

I actually loved the hallucination parts.
Sam's sister is just an idiot, but they do look like sisters. So she has this faaaab career and loads of money can't she pay someone to care for their mother? Stupid. |

And she's going to keep paying for her care. She's just decided all on her own to force Sam into a reconciliation she doesn't want so little sister
won't feel so guilty about not visiting herself anymore. That's what makes it so damn annoying.

No, no, I know that. My question is WHY does she need Sam to be around?? She doesn't, just pay someone else to play the caretaker role.

Exactly. Or pay for Sam and Alex to go to Dallas for a few days first to see if there's any chance of reconciliation, otherwise she's uprooting mom for
no good reason.

Well, the woman hasn't seen Sam since she was fifteen...with all that money, pay for a stunt double.
