There was also an article about Alex Kingston appearing in the same episode as Anthony Edwards in flashbacks but for the life of me i can't find it. It was
on digital spy but it seems to have disappeared. I will try and post a link later.

The question is, then...will it be the same episode? I tend to think not, but the prospect of a whole slew of flashbacks is unappealing. Unless, of course, my
fantasy of the finale being Carter waking up in the on-call room to discover it was all a dream and the entire cast waiting in triage comes true.

I don't like the use of "Banfield had a child who died here" flashback thing either, but I guess it's the only real way to bring back the
dead without making them ghosts.

Right, but Corday isn't dead. Neither is Weaver. And I'm 90% sure that Romano's soul haunts the OR.

George Clooney Called Back to the ER?
Nov. 6, 2008, 11:22 AM EST
Entertainment Tonight There's talk again of George Clooney and other former cast members returning to "ER" as the show gears up for its final season on NBC. Clooney will return to the popular medical drama along with Noah Wyle and Eriq La Salle, Wyle tells TV Guide senior editor Will Keck. "From what I heard, George said, 'absolutely,' schedule permitting," Wyle says of Clooney's reported return. As for La Salle, he will direct an "ER" episode this month, and then reunite with Wyle on screen as Dr. Peter Benton for a storyline shooting this winter to air next spring, TV Guide reports. Wyle reveals more of the storyline: "As a result of [Carter's] once near-fatal stabbing [the same incident that killed off Kellie Martin's Dr. Lucy Knight in 2000], which led to my subsequent drug addiction, I come back from Africa requiring additional medical treatment for my one remaining kidney. I'm embarrassed to get treatment at County General, so I go up to North Western to get my dialysis up there, and that's where Dr. Benton spies my name on a patient list and comes to pay me a visit." |

Well "schedule permitting" covers a multitude of sins doesn't it?
Hey, maybe Luka can repay Carter for saving his life by donating a kidney!

Common sense: not all that common and frequently not very sensible |

The thing is, though, I thought Carter was able to keep both kidneys. Benton was panicking because he thought they'd have to remove it, and Anspaugh was
able to calm him down. So where did he lose the kidney, then?

Luka can't donate a kidney - the whole malaria thing prevents organ donation. But since Carter's other one evaporated, maybe it will
unevaporate? Personally, I think that the storyline sounds lame, but I never did care for the whole Benton/Carter thing. Too much self-absorption.

I didn't think he lost a kidney then either. Anspaugh said something along the lines of "He could've lived with one kidney, I just didn't wanna have to tell him." That's what didn't make sense to me.Unless something happened in Africa??

And yet, it would have been so much better than what they gave us if it had happened in season 7. Whoo-hoo, Carter's back!
FWIW (and somewhat from from my experience) scar tissue in the kidney can become calcified and cause problems, to the point where they may have to remove at least part of the damaged kidney. Given there was so much damage they didn't think they could save the kidney in the first place, we could find out that something like that has happened in his case. |

I have to admit the show just isn;t as appealing anymore so, even if I never warmed up to them in the past, I'll enjoy the episodes with the former cast
members (especially Romano! That one I miss). I, for one, was more entertained by the Luka/Carter pseudo-friendship, rather than Carter/Benton, but I don;t
think we'll get to see that ever again.
As for his kidney, it does seem odd and out of nowhere, but it's a much better plot for to bring Benton back, rather than something that has to do with Carter's foundation, since it's pretty obvious they haven't been in touch and it would've been harder to believe Carter would just send an invitation to all his former friends. Wonder where Kem is this time... |

With County's record, I wouldn't be embarassed about seeking treatment there--I'd make sure I went any place but there. especially if I had
Carter-type money.
Not surprised about the amazing missing kidney--these writers can barely remember what happened last week, let alone nine years ago... |

I come back from Africa requiring additional medical treatment for my one remaining kidney. I'm embarrassed
No kidding. I'd be embarrassed to be part of such a lame storyline too. If Clooney can't make it back before ER ends, I'm sure he'll turn up on the spinoff starring John Stamos. Then it could be a Full House reunion too!!
Back in the realm of probability: does anyone know for sure if the AE flashbacks are next week, in ep 7, or the following week in ep 8?

Thanks. I thought that was the case, but I was too lazy to rummage through all the spoiler threads to make sure. I'm glad we will get glimpses of Romano
and Weaver too. As for not mentioning them in the PR, it's no stranger than the deep dark secret they made of Hal Holbrook's guest arc last spring.

I don't think they have cared much about PR for the last few years. I couldn't understand either why they would go to the trouble of getting someone
like Hal Holbrook and then not advertise it.
Since the kidney thing was a quote from NW, it may not be that accurate. The actors have seemed pretty clueless about their characters at times. I remember that Carter kept both kidneys too, but I doubt many other people are going to remember that. I wonder if anyone other than NW is going to have an actual storyline, not just a cameo. |

If we have to have Benton back, I hope we also get Reese. Be interesting to see how he's doing---and whether Cleo is still around. IMHO, Kem will either
be staying in Africa because she is pregnant, or else recast. And as for the disappearing kidney, again IMHO, this is an obvious plot device to require Carter
to give up his work in Africa and return to the states where he can be closer to treatment in the future.
He's embarrassed? In front of whom, Haleh and Chuny? He barely knew Morris and Neela, and everybody else is gone. |
