Pics from the screening.
An article with a little more background from morningsun.net. Excerpt:
"Numerous Hallmark dignitaries were guests at the premiere, along with Jeff Most, who produced the film and played a small role in it. He told of the 1
1/2-year struggle to get Sendler to grant the rights to make a film of her life.
The picture of these Hollywood types arguing about script approval with a 98 year old women strikes me as really funny.
"I tried to convince her that we would make a fantastic movie, but Irena wanted script approval," he said. "Finally, I got a call saying that she would grant me the rights but would not approve any scene in which her character was making love in the nude." He assured her that there would be no such scene in the film, and there isn't, though Paquin does share several kisses with Stefan, Irena's future husband, who was played by Goran Visnjic."

Hey Trunkfish and Azizal!
Glad to know I can still find you here sometimes. I liked "Courageous Heart" better than I thought I would. It had more tension and less treacle than the usual Hallmark production and held my interest even after I realized Goran's role would be smaller and less significant than I might have hoped. He had some nice moments, but the writing for his character was sketchy and he dropped in and out of the story far too conveniently. As for the real Irena imagining a nude love scene . . . well, maybe she was a GV fan as well. |

Hehe...yup, momentator, still around.
The scene in the railyard was the scene of the night for me. Goran's facial expression when Stefan was told to save himself, knowing everyone else was going to their deaths, amazing. For those who haven't paid a visit to the BP2 Website of late, we have been lucky enough to be allowed to host the pictures of Goran and Ivana from the premiere of the film courtesy of Hallmark Hall of Fame and the photographer Kenny Felt. They're posted in the Image Gallery.

Yeah, I still check in once in a while. I was disappointed with the size of both GV's and Marcia Gay Harden's parts, but I liked the movie enough to
save it to DVD. A scene showing Stefan and Irena's mother dealing with Irena's imprisonment would have been nice. I think the movie would have been
better in four hours over two weeks; the story still would have been condensed enough to maintain the same fast pace. On the other hand, the pace was what kept
me glued to the TV. I didn't start watching until about 45 minutes in so I wouldn't have to wait for commercials.
The most heartwrenching sight for me was the children carrying one toy each as they walked to the train. I also thought that redheaded kid was impressive. Did his father remind anyone else of Danny Kaye? (...and please, no matter how young you are, you must have seen White Christmas.) |

My thoughts exactly. I liked the fact that it was fast-paced, but they had enough material for a mini-series. So cramming it all into 90 minutes of running time meant that some subplots inevitably got short-changed. I also agree with both you and Azizal that the sequence leading up to the deportation of the orphans was heartbreaking and included Goran's strongest acting, but the aftermath--just how Stefan escaped the stockade and how the loss of all those children affected him and Irena--needed more than a couple of lines of dialogue and a quick embrace. OTOH the subplot involving Jasche (the red-headed kid) and his father was interesting and affecting, but it took up a lot of screen time and was only tangentially related to Irena's story. I kept expecting Stefan to connect with Jasche, since they were both ghetto smugglers, but of course that never happened. Yes, I'm plenty old enough to know Danny Kaye (!) but it was also interesting that Jasche's father mentioned their red hair and keeping it covered. I think that was a reference to the fact that in parts of Eastern Europe red hair is considered a distinctly Jewish trait. Another detail that went by a little too quickly. And did they ever tell us if Jasche got out of the Treblinka woods alive? If so, I missed it. So the story was a bit disjointed that way. But it kept a nice emotional tension--neither too stodgy nor too maudlin--and is definitely worth watching again on DVD to catch a few more details. |

White Christmas!!! yes I do know it and love it!! I hope the DVD includes Deleted scenes with some more Goran on it, I loved the film, I did not get believe
Irena in love with Stefan or maybe because i know in real life it wasnt happily ever after. Or Maybe Anna Paquin wasnt entralled with Goran.. is she blind??
you dont have to go to acting school to look in love with that man!! I was offerred the role but I had to turned it down as my only requisite was a nude sceen
with Goran hahahahahah

Interestingly the NY Times critic felt that the scenes with Groan/Stefan were the only ones in which Ann Paquin "found her spark", although s/he
dismisses the romance as "unnecessary".

I - actually - could not believe my own reaction to seeing the big Croat on screen again. My tonuge was actually hanging out and all I could think was that NO
one should be allowed to be that freaking handsome. Geez. I was looking forward to the movie because I have been familiar with Irena's story for a long
time. I definitely felt like some of it was rushed or glossed over. But I was tremendously affected by the scene of the children walking to the trains...and
Stefan being told to leave them.....and the way the director handled his reunion with Irena afterwards. Sometimes just a glimpse can be SO much more
heartbreaking and true. And I didn't get that Stefan and Irena were supposed to have been 'in love' as much as maybe had secret crushes on one
another prior to meeting again in the ghetto??? At any rate, I DO want to see Goran do more.

I heard from my contact at Hallmark yesterday, she wanted me to post a link on our site for a temporary link to the end of the film, seems Atlanta lost part of
it due to weather, so, everyone gets a treat.
Hallmark has also given us permission to sell the DVD through Bleu Profond 2 so fans of Goran without access to a Hallmark store can get it. I have information on both at this link: http://gogoranvisnjicatbleuprofond2.com/messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=613&start=90 Oh, for those wondering, the clip is viewable outside the US. Enjoy! JD
