Sadly, I even enjoyed Dubenko knocking Neela off of her undeserved high horse. Didn't Gallant take the heat for some mistake she made which led to him being in Iraq and getting, you know, killed? Or was that one of the incidents Lucien mentioned?

Well that turned out better than I expected for the sex abuse storyline. Who knew Brennan could act, though more points go to Scott Grimes for very effective,
understated reactions. Very creepy, effective sequence at the end.

Well.....at least I didn't doze through the episode as I have since 'The Book of Abby'. The way the main story was intercut with Benner's
revelation at the end was absolutely chilling. I was way more affected this week than I was with Banfield's emotional dam breaking last week. Liked the
peek at Gates and Sam's homelife with two teens a wee bit. Seriously LOVED Dubenko's arse kicking of Neela. Liked the interns a bit more. Go Team!
LOVED Grady's 'glad I am a resident' line. And as always....am loving the emotional growth of Archie Morris and the way he is there for
everyone's melt downs. Scott Grimes continues to rock this role.

I {heart} Scott Grimes. He makes every scene he's in better.
I actually cared a little about Simon. The end bit with eye guy was creepy, and the cuts worked well. Still don't give a rat's a$$ about Gates. That eye surgery scene was icky, but I couldn't take my eyes off it. And it's hard when the teacher's pet needs to get knocked down a peg, but Neela had it coming, and Dubenko did it well. |

Initial ratings from Mark Berman/Programming Insider. I found the final comment kind of funny since Berman started saying NBC should pull the plug on ER around
S10!
Next was NBC with its line-up of tired My Name is Earl (#3: 4.2/ 7), inane Kath & Kim (#3: 3.7/ 6), always demographically reliable The Office (#3: 4.9/ 7), compatible 30 Rock (#3: 4.5/ 7), and soon-to-conclude ER (#2: 6.5/10). Considering NBC's massive woes elsewhere, it's really too bad veteran ER is ending this season. I decided awhile back that the Brenner actor could act--although his accent is impenetrable to me at times--but I still think his character is at best a collection of scenes rather than an integrated, believable personality. As with Banfield, I get the feeling the writers thought "hey, they're only going to be here a few months, why bother to cook up whole characters when we can just microwave some old plots." But I am glad that at some point since "Secrets and Lies" TPTB figured out that when an adult has sex with a tween, it's a crime, not a seduction. |

I agree that this was better than expected and that there was some good acting WRT the sex abuse scene. However, with this episode I finally figured out why
all the intensity is bugging me this season: too much heat, too little warmth. There's no tenderness between the alleged lovers, no sense of genuine
friendship between ANY two characters, no cameraderie. Everybody's just waiting his or her turn to have the big intense scene, and then they step back.
Nice to see Lily again, I think it's been awhile. |

I decided awhile back that the Brenner actor could act--although his accent is impenetrable to me at times--but I still think his character is at best a collection of scenes rather than an integrated, believable personality. I got the same impression about Brenner, as a character. As for the episode...For it isn't confession Thursday! The show is getting harder and harder to watch, although the ending is still powerful, each time. It seems like forever ago Luka andAbby were saying goodbye... So..Intern power?! For a moment, when they joined hands, I thought they were going to call Captain Planet. The homeless guy is Tony's Bishop, Neela is in a contest with Ray for the most obnoxious character, Sarah really doesn't know how to choose her outfits and Sam's personality somehow evaporated. It's hard to watch when I'm interested in only one character, and he's always left in the background. If it hadn't been for Morris...I won't go there. |

Always the last to respond, but here goes.
I know I was supposed to be terribly moved by the paedophile subject but I wasn't. I've started to be irritated by things that up to now I barely noticed, or, if I did notice, shrugged off. Patients giving a run down of the circumstances in which they came by their injuries is one such. The paedophile giving his life history, the woman talking about being on the way to meet her date. The medical staff don't care! Shut up! I had to go to A&E earlier this week and if, as they were taking me to be examined at 6.30 am, I'd started explaining that we'd been looking at paint charts the night before and discussing what our boys want for Christmas, and I'd gone to bed fine but woken up in agony, and oh, I really wanted to get the sitting room painted before Christmas, they'd have thought I'd lost my mind. If they'd just vary the format occasionally it would help. Sam continues to annoy the sh*t out of me. "How did that guy get Max's bag?" Duh, Sam. Homeless man, sleeping on the street or in hostels and shelters. As I am constantly saying to my 12 year old "If you thought for a moment before asking the question you wouldn't need to ask the question." And does she only work with Gates now? "You won't let me in!". Ever feel like hitting him with a hammer? And another thing - what's with the stand off about her ditching work to go with him? If he's acting as a doctor in search of a patient that's one thing but her? Why? I agree with Max being Gates's Bishop Stewart - but he's also the Homeless Hobbits of Christmas Past. And my goodness, watching them drive around looking for the chap - I wondered whether he'd ditch her once they found him. Good job there are no antelopes in Chicago. Camels, yes. You know what would make me heave? If she decides she wants a baby with Gates. Seriously, I'd do someone an injury. And more recycling - Neela is channeling Abby when she was supposed to be supervising Jake with the "I'm better off on my own and not supervising med students/interns". I'm glad she was scolded; I really disliked the way she didn't let Andrew properly articulate his concerns last week, and then made it all his fault. And speaking of Andrew, why doesn't his accent match his sister's? Were they seperated as children and brought up in completely different parts of the country? The paedophile who was beaten up had precious little swelling and bruising for someone who took such a pounding to his face. Perhaps the effects people were overcome after being given the go ahead to spray the Kensington Gore around. "The show's ending! Use the stock up!". And finally Brenner. I want to care. I tried to care, but what's the point? He'll be gone in a few months and I can't be arsed. If it had been Archie, or Frank, I'd have been crying along with him but this bloke, no. In just the same way that Banfield's back story did nothing to make me like her, especially as it is pretty much 100% recycled, so this didn't make me look at Brenner in a new light. And it feels a bit like Abby too - you think I'm a sourpuss/mysoginistic arsehole but just look at my childhood. Thank God for Archie Morris and his sweet brown eyes.

I just watched this last night. I kind of felt like a hardass for not having the least little bit of sympathy for Brenner, but I see I'm not alone. I'm
kind of fed up with the "I had a bad thing happen to me (a hard life, bad parents, mean sibling, bad hangnail) so I get to treat other people like
sh!t" attitude. I may be especially sensitive because I had a former boss who was a poster child for said attitude. I agree that SG's performance in
the scene with Brenner was exceptional.
I still don't care for Sam and Gates but I did think that their little family scene was well played and believable. If the writers wrote them like that from the beginning I would have been able to care about them. Iczer eh wrote:Dubenko listed all of Neela's surgical errors. Gallant took the blame for Neela killing a nursing home patient in the ER by giving him the wrong medication when she was a med student. IIRC, she also killed a women on her first day in the ER. Looks like Neela is developing the typical surgeon's hubris. |

I'll be honest - after twelve seconds of Brenner's sob story, my roommate turned on the blender to make a smoothie, and for the first time in
"ER" history, I didn't ask her to shut up and leave the room. In fact, I made myself a snack, played with the cat, and generally resigned myself
to the fact that I no longer care about anything that happens on "ER." Unless they start giving SG decent storylines, I'll probably turn it on
out of sheer obligation until I leave the country, and then watch it online without my characteristic panic attack over seing it real time...possibly waiting a
week to ten days to resign myself to watching something I care about out of habit. And then I will log onto AEB and rejoice in finally being in the position to
share in the majority opinion.
So, out of duty for the cause...Abby is amazing and can do no wrong, Mark's tumor should have lasted another year, Carter is my hero, and Kerry never was a real lesbian, it was all an act to get Romano to fall in love with her. Crap, even I don't agree with me. |

Let me tell you guys, I honestly never thought it would ever come to everyone thanking god for Morris. I can still remember season 11 when nearly everyone
hated his guts. This amuses me greatly.
