I read somewhere it will be shown in 3 parts, is that right? It was shown in 4 parts here, so I don't know how it will be split up if it is changed to 3 for the US. Depending on how it's been arranged, it may be best to record the lot first, and then watch it in one go afterwards. I hope you get the 'Scandelous!' promo that we got for it, that always made me smile. (BTW, to anyone who already saw it - does anyone else think the woman who gets giddy around the young doctor sounds a lot like Annette Crosbie from One Foot in the Grave? I wasn't looking at the screen when she first spoke, and I thought it was Annette Crosbie for a moment...obviously it isn't, but I found the similarity quite striking.) *********************************** ~ Ah, there's June. Posts: 570 (05/06/08 09:24 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I'm enjoying "Cranford" on PBS, mostly because of the superlative cast and historical detail, which set it apart from the wealth of 19th century novels we've seen in adaptation lately. Yes, it's in three parts--part one ending with the deaths of Deborah and little Walter. ( I'm so disappointed Eileen Atkins is finished!) So the original format may be somewhat changed, but fortunately the episodes are also available online for a limited period for re-viewing.

Anyone catch Alex Kingston in Dr Who? A really good two parter I thought, but then those written by Steven Moffatt are usually top notch - The Empty Child and Blink were his too. I loved the running "Spoilers!" gag. And "Proper Dave and Other Dave". I understand that there is to be a US version of "Life On Mars" - can't really imagine it. I heard there'll be a Christmas episode of Cranford......or was it LarkRise....or both? There's going to be more of both, either way.... and more Royle Family, yay! I saw AK in Doctor Who, now I wonder if they've got plans to bring her back into it later? I want Miss Evangelista's black costume. Did you spot the Empty Child ref in the 2nd Sontaran episode, btw? Very chuckle-worthy, I like when they do that, continuity is fun. I'm slightly ticked off with the Beeb tho - someone created a knitting pattern for the adipose babies and made it available online for people to make their very own adiposes, and the BBC made them take it down because daft people started selling them on eBay. And I hadn't saved the pattern in time! So I can't make an adipose baby of my very own now. Boo! US 'Life on Mars' won't work as the programme the Brits know it as. It may work very well for the US viewers, but for us it will seem all wrong, I suspect. I mean, how does "I'm 'avin 'oops!" translate in American-speak? I'm hanging in there for a third series of 'Jam and Jerusalem' ('Clatterford' in the US?). I wasn't sure about it to begin with, but it totally grew on me, and now I just want more! Also Kate Rusby is really cool. But it's all sport and Big Brother now .....snore..... time to catch up on my DVDs, watch Sweeney Todd for the 5th time, etcetc... *********************************** ~ Ah, there's June. Posts: 607 (06/13/08 10:53 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	If I'm not mistaken, the US version of "Life on Mars" will be ER's new timeslot competition in the fall (on ABC, in place of "Lost", which goes on another long hiatus). It appears to be completely "Americanized," but it still doesn't look very promising--at least to me. I'm not a big fan of the time-swap gimmick.

Dench for best actress and Atkins for best supporting actress in a miniseries/movie category.

It's so hard to choose which one I liked best! So far I've heard 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' (yuck! Hated the book at school...) and 'Little Dorritt' (sp? Never read it or seen it before...) lined up for the autumn/winter. I'm glad they're looking outside the same few stories that seem to be re-done every 5 years. And there could be Christmas Cranford and LarkRise too. And I heard 'Jam and Jerusalem' will be back, yay! Looks like it's being done by the same director that did the most recent version of 'Oliver Twist' (which IMHO was a load of old tripe). Good thing I never really 'got' the whole WH thing, I suppose - at least I won't be disappointed if ITV and the director screw it up. I bet they're all on the same day and same time though. On an ER-related note, I noticed Parminder Nagra is in one of them ('Compulsion'), with Ray Winstone, sounds like an interesting role for her. (I'd also like to say I thought Alex Kingston made a decent Mrs Bennet in 'Lost in Austen', and that her ER-mum is creepy (so far, anyway, I don't know the full story though...) in Little Dorrit. ) *********************************** ~ Ah, there's June.
