Anyone watching the new Alex Kingston programme, Hope Springs? I wasn't going to cos it looked a bit meh, but then I gave it a look and Annette Crosbie's cool, and it just kinda stuck with me...

Been looking at the Christmas TV 'highlights', there's a few things going to be on that look decent (Xmas in Larkrise, yay!). I bet they're all on the same day and same time though.

On an ER-related note, I noticed Parminder Nagra is in one of them ('Compulsion'), with Ray Winstone, sounds like an interesting role for her.

ITV, I think it is, are doing 'Wuthering Heights' with that Tom Hardy fella as Heathcliff. Looks like it's being done by the same director that did the most recent version of 'Oliver Twist' (which IMHO was a load of old tripe).

Good thing I never really 'got' the whole WH thing, I suppose - at least I won't be disappointed if ITV and the director screw it up. ...

So they could both win in their own catagory then...sounds good, at least they won't be head-to-head for the same award like at the BAFTAs (Eileen Atkins won, IIRC). It's so hard to choose which one I liked best!

So far I've heard 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' (yuck! Hated the book at school...) and 'Little Dorritt' (sp? Never read it or seen it before...) lined up for the autumn/winter. I'm glad they're looking outside the same few stories...

Fans of Cranford may be interested to know (if you have not heard already) that both Judi Dench and Eileen Atkins were nominated for Emmys as a result of the US airing. Dench for best actress and Atkins for best supporting actress in a miniseries/movie category.

Ahhh, right, that would certainly explain the similarity. I could have sworn I checked IMDB and it didn't mention it at the time, but then my memory is a black hole these days. Either that or they snuck it in after I looked.

If I'm not mistaken, the US version of "Life on Mars" will be ER's new timeslot competition in the fall (on ABC, in place of "Lost", which goes on another long hiatus). It appears to be completely "Americanized," but it still doesn't look very promising--at least to me. I'm not a big fan of the time-swap gimmick.

I'm glad it's not just me, lol. I heard there'll be a Christmas episode of Cranford......or was it LarkRise....or both? There's going to be more of both, either way.... and more Royle Family, yay!

I saw AK in Doctor Who, now I wonder if they've got plans to bring her back into it later?
I want Miss Evangelista's black costume.

Did you spot the Empty Child ref in the 2nd Sontaran episode, btw? Very chuckle-worthy, I like when they do that,...

Miranda - only just noticed your last post - but yes, I heard the similarity too.

Anyone catch Alex Kingston in Dr Who? A really good two parter I thought, but then those written by Steven Moffatt are usually top notch - The Empty Child and Blink were his too. I loved the running "Spoilers!" gag. And "Proper Dave and Other Dave".

I understand that there is to be a US version of "Life On Mars" - can't really imagine it.

I'm enjoying "Cranford" on PBS, mostly because of the superlative cast and historical detail, which set it apart from the wealth of 19th century novels we've seen in adaptation lately. Yes, it's in three parts--part one ending with the deaths of Deborah and little Walter. ( I'm so disappointed Eileen Atkins is finished!) So the original format may be somewhat changed, but fortunately the episodes are also available online for a limited period for re-viewing.

Definately watch it if you can - it's possibly *the* best programme of it's kind.

I read somewhere it will be shown in 3 parts, is that right? It was shown in 4 parts here, so I don't know how it will be split up if it is changed to 3 for the US. Depending on how it's been arranged, it may be best to record the lot first, and then watch it in one go afterwards.

I hope you get the 'Scandelous!' promo that we got for it, that always made me smile....

I'm not really sure how much use we'll get out of this thread, lol, but there has to be something worth talking about in here. After all, there's State of Play, Spooks, Cutting It, Strange (I haven't seen a complete episode yet, but it seems to get good reviews in the newspapers), The Office, Phoenix Nights.

Then there's Holby City and Casualty...
